  • Health Initiative #1

    Grocery Store Proposal
Given: Excess weight and obesity have become the #1 cause of illness and death in the United States, affecting both adults and children. For the health of the country, WE propose that all grocery store owners voluntarily remove their candy and sod pop junk food items from the impulse buying checkout lines of their stores.
SpacerReason: We have legislated against the display and advertising of tobacco and alcohol products when they were the number one causes of harm; and now that obesity and excess weight have surpassed these problems, responsible community businesses should not be pushing these harmful “drugs” onto our children nor adults.

    School Vending Proposal

Given: Our children are being impacted by the obesity epidemic, WE propose that all schools remove all candy and soda pop from their vending machines; and only dispense water and natural foods within our schools.

Spacer Reason: Good health traits and habits develop early. The percentage of our children now being affected with excess weight justifies this health change.

    Restaurant Menu Information

Given: People want to eat more healthily and be informed of what they are eating, WE propose that all restaurants list on the back of their menus the sources of their A) drinking and food preparation water, B) source of their fish and produce, and C) what types of oils the restaurant uses in their food preparations.

Spacer Reason: Gluten and cow dairy are the number 1 and 2 causes of damaging food allergies. We need to know whether the food is organic, locally grown or from some other food origin and A) is it filtered water or from some other water sources, B) is it farm-raised or wild fish and C) is it olive oil or canola oil, cottonseed or any oils. This is the type of information people deserve to know when they are choosing to eat healthy.
